'Un turista intrappolato (A Tourist Trapped, 2025) is just one of 30 new paintings by Hernan Bas in the exhibition ‘The Visitors’ at Ca’ Pesaro – International Gallery of Modern Art. Curated by Elisabetta Barisoni, the show presents a range of real and imagined scenarios featuring tourists – often lithe, brooding and faintly terrifying young white men – adrift in the world. Made during a residency in Venice, this new body of work is on the nose in its satire and thick with clichés, yet surprisingly fun and delightfully weird: a pointed attack on the shallow excursionist that feels befitting – if uncomfortably meta – in this highly touristed city.' — Terence Trouillot
