Jules de Balincourt discusses his current exhibition, They Cast Long Shadows, in the Guardian

Denounced monuments, moonlit peace-seekers, how Brexit looks to Americans … Jules de Balincourt’s vivid, dreamlike works capture his country’s divisive times

 

'In America, the women’s movement has been invigorated. I thought about the idea that male leaders don’t seem to take us to good places. So, I just made this image of all women – queens and diplomats. Usually I’m always painting completely from my imagination, but with some of these characters I looked at classical Dutch and English painting.'
