Master Class: Chantal Joffe at Zabludowicz Collection

2 February, 7–9pm

Testing Ground: Master Class invites leading international artists to share their expertise with a small group of emerging artists from around the country over a week long intensive, led by artist Doug Fishbone. This year the guest tutors are: Susan Hiller, Chantal Joffe, Heather Phillipson and Eve Sussman, all artists whose work is in the Zabludowicz Collection. Each will give a free public lecture about their work.

Chantal Joffe’s large-scale portraits, mostly of women and children, express a strong psychological and emotional force with a humorous touch. Using rough and dynamic brush-strokes brings the images to life, as the paint also finds its own way by dripping down the canvas. Recent solo exhibitions have appeared at Galerie Forsblom, Helsinki and Victoria Miro, London, both 2016; Cheim & Read, New York, Jewish Museum, New York, and Jerwood Gallery, Hastings, all 2015.

Free. Booking recommended.
