Victoria Miro is delighted to participate in Art Basel with works by Elmgreen & Dragset, Secundino Hernández, Kudzanai-Violet Hwami, Chantal Joffe, Isaac Julien, Idris Khan, Yayoi Kusama, Doron Langberg, Alice Neel, Chris Ofili, Howardena Pindell, Paula Rego and Hedda Sterne.
Major figurative works on view include Alice Neel’s 1980 painting of her elder son, Richard, and a significant 2001 work by Paula Rego, along with examples from Rego’s 2007 Depression Series, a suite of pastels which the artist kept hidden for ten years. Further figurative highlights include new works by Chantal Joffe, Isaac Julien and Doron Langberg.
A focus of our presentation this year considers the monochrome and the ways in which processes of abstraction are used to convey complexities of memory, emotion and self-identity, as well as alluding to the rhythms of the natural world. Works on view include an important Infinity Net by Yayoi Kusama, a new painting by Idris Khan, a 1974 tondo by Hedda Sterne and a large-scale work by Howardena Pindell.
