As visitors approach David Zwirner and Victoria Miro’s joint booth, they are greeted by Alice Neel’s striking 1966 portrait of Beat poet Allen Ginsberg. With his mouth agape and eyes wide behind dark-rimmed glasses, Ginsberg appears mid-exclamation against a swirling backdrop of blues, grays, and whites. The arresting painting offers a fitting introduction to a presentation dedicated to Neel’s portraits of queer individuals and their wider circle.
