Conrad Shawcross unveils Glance of the Sun (Time Pebble C40AS2) in Cambridge

Glance of the Sun (Time Pebble C40AS2) is constructed from a complex matrix of thousands of unique parts, each part perforated with a non-repeating pattern of holes. Through this process, a radiant latticed structure expands out from its single epicentre. The work attempts to represent the early expansion of the universe and creation of all the galaxies and stars, a period known as the great expansion. 

This monumental new artwork commissioned by Breakthrough Properties stands at the entrance to the Vitrum by Breakthrough building in St John's new Innovation Park in Cambridge.

Standing four metres high and four metres wide, the sculpture creates a dynamic focal point for the building's public realm and a flag for its ambitious intent. The sculpture’s intricate geometry shifts in effect through the changing light of the day and the seasons: a key property of radiant geometry is that light always penetrates through its centre.
