Grayson Perry enters the Victoria Miro gallery fresh from his ES photo shoot in full transvestite glory as his alter ego Claire: a clashy, floaty dress, a big, blonde bouffant, eyelashes like batwings, and platform sandals that push his height up to an imposing 6ft 5in.
He enjoyed the shoot with Martin Parr, who is an old friend. ‘We are on the same page, both social observers who enjoy a good laugh,’ he says, ‘and we have a kind of — how would I describe it? — a qualified affection for the British.’
Parr, Perry’s psychologist wife Philippa and his daughter Flo follow in his slipstream as we survey his latest show, Super Rich Interior Decoration.
