“Super Rich Interior Decoration”. The exhibition’s title popped out irritably from a conversation with one of my fellow Royal Academicians on Varnishing Day 2018. Traditionally, Varnishing Day was when exhibiting painters would put finishing touches to their works in situ. Nowadays it is the day when Royal Academy of Arts members get to see for the first time how the Summer Exhibition committee has curated and hung the annual show.
